Currently, schools are looking for ways to develop and support the social emotional learning (SEL) needs of their students.  Providing SEL instruction helps motivate students in their learning, improves behavior and academic performance and benefits the entire school community.  SEL allows students to learn to manage their emotions, build and strengthen relationships, improve self-awareness, practice self-management and responsible decision-making skills.  Teachers strive to create a safe and positive learning environment for all learners and implementing SEL strategies and practices, help make this possible.  With student stress, anxiety and depression rates on the rise and schools need to be working to teach students to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to set goals, manage their emotions and develop empathy to maintain strong, positive relationships.  Participants in their course will investigate, develop and implement different strategies and tools to improve SEL strategies and practices in their classroom.  Participants will employ these strategies with students and share the results with each other in interactive online discussion communities.
