Description
Welcome to The Educator’s AI Playbook, your intensive, two-part professional learning journey designed specifically for K-12 educators eager to understand, leverage, and ethically integrate Artificial Intelligence into their teaching and learning practices. In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, AI isn’t just a tool; it’s a transformative partner. This boot camp will move you from foundational understanding to advanced application, empowering you to critically engage with AI technologies, streamline your workflows, design engaging learning experiences, and prepare your students for an AI-enabled future. Get ready to master prompt engineering, redesign assignments for deeper learning, and cultivate a classroom where human intelligence is amplified by AI.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of The Educator’s AI Playbook Summer Cohort, participants will be able to:
- Comprehend Foundational AI Concepts: Understand the basic principles of Artificial Intelligence, Neural Networks, and Large Language Models, making complex ideas accessible and relevant to K-12 education.
- Master Prompt Engineering: Develop sophisticated prompting skills to effectively generate educational content, streamline administrative tasks, and utilize AI as a collaborative thought partner for problem-solving and action planning.
- Navigate AI Tools Responsibly: Explore and critically evaluate a variety of AI-enabled tools and Large Language Models, understanding their capabilities, limitations, and ethical implications.
- Address Legal & Ethical Considerations: Identify and apply legal guidelines and ethical obligations related to AI use in education, including academic integrity, data privacy, bias awareness, and digital citizenship.
- Design AI-Resilient Learning Experiences: Redesign assignments and assessments to foster deeper learning, promote accountability, and prevent AI from replacing, but rather enhancing, student intellectual growth.
- Integrate AI for Enhanced Pedagogy: Utilize advanced AI features (e.g., custom tools, knowledge curation) to personalize teaching, optimize workflows, and create highly engaging, human-centered learning environments.
- Cultivate Digital Literacy in Students: Develop and deliver age-appropriate lessons that introduce students to AI, teach responsible prompt engineering, and equip them with critical digital literacy skills to navigate AI-generated content and evolving media.
- Lead AI Integration: Prepare to serve as a knowledgeable advocate and leader for responsible and impactful AI integration within their school or broader educational community.
The Summer Cohort Model
Our Summer Cohort is delivered through a flexible, hybrid learning model designed for busy educators:
- Facilitator-led Online Learning Modules (Google Classroom):
- The boot camp is structured into two sequential courses, each comprising 6 self-paced modules and a 7th culminating project module.
- Each module includes 3 hands-on assignments designed to be completed in Google Docs or Slides, leveraging outside resources and practical application.
- Modules conclude with a facilitated discussion prompt to encourage peer interaction and deeper reflection.
- Dive Deeper with Live Google Meet Sessions:
- Each course includes three mandatory, 60-minute live virtual sessions to kick off the course, provide a mid-point check-in, and wrap up the learning.
- If a participant misses a live session, they must watch the recording and attend a scheduled make-up session at the end of the course to receive credit.
- These interactive sessions will offer opportunities for real-time engagement, Q&A with facilitators, collaborative problem-solving, and sharing of best practices.
- They are designed to build community and provide synchronous support to complement the self-paced learning.
- Practical & Hands-On Focus: The core of this boot camp lies in active, experiential learning. You will gain practical skills through direct engagement with AI tools, prompt engineering exercises, and the design of classroom-ready resources.
Community of Practice: Engage with fellow educators through online discussions and live sessions, sharing insights, challenges, and successes in a supportive learning environment.
